My Labor Experience

On 11 January 2011 at 11.11am, I had safely delivered a healthy 3.72kg baby girl with a height of 52cm through a C-section with epidural... Alhamdullilah...

Hubby and I named our little angel Qistina Rasyiqah, which means fairness, conscientiousness and beauty in every way...

On the night of 10 Jan, I was asked to refrain from eating and drinking from 11pm onwards. Hubby kept counting down the hours for the baby to be born, while I can only swallow my saliva and tawakkal that everything will be alright and that I can bear with the post-surgery pain which people said hurts like hell... I even had wierd dreams that night.

So when morning came, we were to report to the Parkway East Hospital at 8.30am to prepare for my surgery that will take place at 10.45am that day.

My parents-in-law came to visit me around 10am to see me off before the surgery.

10.30am, they wheeled me off in bed to the operating theatre (OT). They did all the checks, and god knows what and the anasthetic doctor mentally prepared me the effects of the surgery with epidural. He mentioned that I will feel a bit of pain and stretching during the op and once done, I will experience a bit of shivering.

While they were doing all of those, a nurse was helping my husband to dress up as one of them before he was allowed to enter the OT. Too bad no cameras were to be taken to the OT, if not we had wanted to film the entire thing.

Alhamdullilah, throughout the entire op, I felt very tolerable pain and stretching here and there. The baby was scheduled to be out at 11am but because the effect of epidural was slow to work on me, the doctors asked whether to get baby out at 11.11 am was ok. Of course we said yes, I mean no matter what, she needs to be out of me that day!

The medical team asked my husband whether he will allow them to call the media to make a story of our baby and her 11/1/11 at 1111hrs thingy... But my husband declined to have such publicity... *chet* (If not u would have seen us in the papers!)

After the successful op, I shivered non-stop for 2 hours. I wasnt allowed to eat or drink at all. I was so thirsty that I drank sips of water, and end result - I vomitted 3 times until I was given the anti-nausal medication. So I ended up having to fast another day. I was also not able to get out of bed as they had needles injected on me - one for the drip, the other the painkillers. There goes my plan to start breasfeeding from day 1.

Oh, and that night at around 2.30am, I was down with fever. Luckily, I recovered within the next hour or so..

On 12 Jan, my gynae came and asked if I had passed wind. I told him that I had burped a lot but not pass wind. He said if I cant pass wind that day, then I still cant eat. Ended up, I was only able to eat dinner that day, which I had chosen porridge. Yucks!

By this time, the nurse had removed all tubes and needles etc off me and accompanied me to the toilet to wash up etc... I was asked to get up and walk. Lucky for me, I was able to bear with the little pain and walk myself.

Come 13 Jan, I showered (honestly, I was the only one who showered in the room, the other patients didnt!) by myself and was able to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Seeing my progress, the doctor said that I can be discharged the next day....

Apparently, the op that I had chosen left me very little pain during the post-op. Yes, it was difficult to stand and get in and out of bed, but the pain that I felt was nothing compared to the experiences of mothers who had done a C-Section before. No doubt Im on painkillers but I am able to walk normally from the 4th day onwards. I still cant bend too much or lie on my side, but alhamdullilah, its not as bad as what people said.

Right now, my husband had been the one doing the urut for me. He had been on leave from the 10th right till 21st. My tukang urut said that she will only come a month after the surgery for the urut. But my mum told my husband that I have to be urut now to prevent masuk angin. So for the past week people, my husband had been my tukang urut. I had been drinking the Polleney Pati Ikan Haruan in hope to heal the wound faster and am taking those complete jamu set which my husband had bought from Geylang. Thanks hubby for your help and support. Love you loads!

For the sengkak and bengkung, I have scheduled that to be done about 2 months from now. I really need to get my tummy back to my pre-pregnancy shape... Takkan baru anak satu perut dah boyot kan...

I'll continue my ramblings another time, need to go wash off the pilis on my face now... Before signing off, here's a photo of my little angel...
