Anyway, alhamdullilah on Saturday 12th March 2011, hubby and I organised the cukur rambut function, or baby shower for our darling daughter. Qistina was 2 months and 1 day old.
We invited about 200 people for the event. The marhabban/berzanji was held at home while the lunch reception was held at my void deck.
The menu for the day (cooked by my BIL) was white rice with:
- sambal goreng pengantin
- ayam masak lemak cili padi
- sambal sotong kering
- ikan kering
Desserts include:
- Bubur Pulut Hitam
- Brownie Squares from Cookie House (ordered from FB)
- Blueberry Cheese Tart from Ladiez Haven (ordered from FB)
- Strawberry Cheese Tart from Ladies Haven
- Lopez
- Epok-epok
- koci (or sthg) i forgot the name
Some relatives also gave about 2-3 more kuih2 for the function, alhamdullilah.
The door gift was cupcakes with icing and choc chips(which was not too sweet) made by my own sister, Ika.
Everything proceeded as planned except for one. PHOTOGRAPHY.
As mentioned in my previous post, we engaged the services of this photography company who also happened to be my hubby's friend. Along with the photography service for the baby shower event, we also managed to get a reasonable photo shoot that was held at his place. During the photoshoot, he wanted us to pay a deposit of $100. We agreed. However nearing the date, he requested to have $200 due to some financial problems of his. Since he is a friend, we willingly paid $200 in advance.
It was agreed that he was supposed to turn up at 930am. The function started at 10am btw. We already called him the night before to remind him.
But on the day itself, hubby and I was very busy that we totally forgot about him until it was about 955am. That was when I realised that the photographer was not there yet.
Hubby called him at 958am and he said that he is still at Orchard Road. He finished work (his other job) late and he is on the way. Of course we got pissed. I mean, HELLO! IF YOU ARE GONNA BE LATE, DONT YOU HAVE THE COURTESY TO CALL US IN ADVANCE TO LET US KNOW?
I mean, by 915am, if you know you can't reach by the agreed time which was 930am, isn't it common sense to at least call or sms that you will be late?
Hubby and I was already very busy, not to mention very tired as it was only the 2 of us who did all the preparations (wash the entire house, put the cats in my mums room, arrange the furnitures to one side, decorate the bunga rampai and even fixing the tables at the void deck) the night before. If only he had the courtesy to inform us of his lateness in advance, we may be more willing to give and take. So out of anger and probably irrational mind, we immediately cancelled his services on the spot.
It takes time for him to come, and since he already was not there the first part of the event, why bother to come at all right?
HIs argument was, he had done many cukur rambut events, and the main thing which is the cukur rambut will always start btwn 30-45 mins from the start of the berzanji. HELLO BRO, you did photography for wedding events. The main event was the solemnization ceremony. Why is it that you can be early for that? Why not just turn up minutes before the solemnization starts?
HIS ARGUMENT TOTALLY DOESN'T MAKE SENSE AT ALL! You know what I mean? After we cancelled his services, he promised to return us the $150 with the cd of the photoshoot. (Means he only took $50 for the family shoot).
BUT, the next day, he started talking nonsense like texting us the breach of contract clause that if one party breached the contract, no deposits should be refunded. BUT IN ACTUAL FACT THERE WAS NO CONTRACT SIGNED WHATSOEVER.
The argument got quite out of hand and we wanted to take the matter legally to get back our money. But after talking to some lawyer friends and even an ASP, we decided not to pursue further. Even though it was highly likely we were to win the case, the legal fees will cost more than the $150.
He offered to give us back the CD, an A1 size photo frame and an album (all but not the $150). But we were'nt keen. Dah tawar hati.
So all we asked for was him to mail us the CD that contains the original and edited pictures. There are some that I uploaded on FB. The quality says it all.
I'm still not over it, this shall be the second and last time his services will be engaged. After this, we are not friends anymore.
Now, please enjoy some photos which were taken by my sister. I am still upset that I couldn't capture the beautiful moments of my daughter for the event, tapi nak buat aper kan. Mungkin takda rezeki..
To the friends/relatives who came but photo was not taken, my sincere apologies. We didnt expect this to happen. Our sincere gratitude for coming to celebrate the joyous occasion with us.
