Hari Raya Open House

After much request and demand, I finally decided to hold a Hari Raya Open House specially catering to friends, colleagues and clients of mine, who had been supportive towards me these past years, and also those whom I have never seen around for the longest possible time.

I picked the date 3rd October 2009 from 12pm-7pm. However, guests only started coming at 1pm and non-stop stream of people in and out until 9pm.

The day before the event, my mum, Mr. HHH & I had went to the market to prepare all the things/ingredients needed.

The menu for the day: Tomato Rice, Briyani Beef/Mutton, Ayam Masak Merah, Sweet & Sour Fish and Vegetarian Soup. We also had yellow watermelons as dessert and lemon juice as the chosen cold beverage.

Who else be the chef? Yup, my only mum. She spent that Saturday morning cooking while I spent the entire morning cleaning the entire house, including the cats home. Mr. HHH came at about 11am and he started helping with the other preparations like mixing the drinks and things like that.

About 50 guests turned up, and unexpectedly the initial amount of food we cooked apparently wasnt enough! They liked my mum's cooking so much that she have to cook and re-cook more for more than 3 times. I found out that she eventually cooked 19 pots of tomato rice at the end of the day. That's about 4 rounds of re-cooking rice in a huge pot. At the end of the day, my entire freezer of our own ingredients for cooking were all whipped out! Imagine that!

But at the end of the day, we were all happy and thankful that the event was a success and that there were no wastages of food. And I believe my guests made my mum's day by showing their genuine appreciation about the food prepared.

I am also thankful to Mr. HHH and my 2 other sisters Amy and Ika for helping out in the event.

To those who came, thank you very much. To those who couldn't make it, perhaps next time and to those who perhaps I didnt invite, I didnt purposely leave you out. It was just that this is my 2nd time having an open house of my own (the first when I was still in SMU) and I was afraid to make it BIG.

Last Saturday was really a trial and if GOD permits, I will have another one probably next year. This time it will be BIG, where I'll probably involve my own relatives and cousins and more friends and colleagues, insyallah.

Some momentos: (the rest already uploaded on facebook)

Enjoy! Love!
